Respite

If you are feeling exhausted, frustrated, depressed, isolated, quilty, resentfu or burnout these are all normal for caregivers. It is also a sign that you need to take a break and have time to care for yourself. Respite is a "break" from caregiving, whether for a few hours, aday or a week to allow you time to rest and reenergize. You will be a better caregiver and feel recharged.

Many older adults, including those with dementia simply need basic grooming, bathing assistance, meals prepared, laundry and houskeeping. These services can be provided by others to give you a break. Most Senior Services offer Respite services as well as Homecare Services.  Veteran's are also eligible for respite in their home.

Adult Day Centers can provide up to 8 hours a day, Monday thru Friday at a center which allows you to deal with your other parts of life. Some nursing homes provide this type of care but it usually private pay. If the person has less than six months to live you can utilize the services of Hospice. This is paid for by Medicare but help is limited and is not at a scheduled time usually.
