Adult Abuse and Neglect
Indiana law requires that all people report suspected abuse, self-neglect or exploitation of dependent adults. The report will be investigated, legal action will be taken if necessary and services for the victim will be coordinated. Reports can be made anonymously. Emergency situations should be reported directly to the police and medical help summoned if needed. Some signs of elder abuse and neglect are -
Physical, Psychological, Sexual -
- Change in behavior
- Mental confusion
- Cuts, bruises, burns
- Confinement
- Isolation
- Harassment
Neglect By Self or Others -
- Inadequate health care
- Poor hygiene or environment
- Unable to perform tasks of daily living
- Unsafe judgment
Exploitation
- Unusual bank withdrawals
- Lack of personal belongings
- Different signatures on checks
- Change in Power of Attorney or legal matters
