Health Record

It is important to compile a complete health record so that a healthcare provider can immediately know the history.  You own your patient records and have a right to obtain copies but may be charged for them.  Begin a notebook or there are also on-line health records services.  Be sure to notify your physical who is your Healthcare Representative or anyone you allow to obtain this information for you.

HIPAA, the health information privavy law went into effect April 14, 2003. For the first time, federal law establishes standards for patient privacy in all 50 states, including the right of patients to access to their own records.  Although HIPAA provides some protection, it is not the final answer to medical records privacy.  Insurance companies are allowed access to health information databases.
