Monitoring
There are many devices and services available to help seniors remain independent with someone watching over them. Telephone Reassurance Services are available to make a daily telephone check in on your loved one. This can be done once a day or several times throughout the day. This becomes a comfort to the senior living alone with no relatives nearby. This service is often available through your local Senior Services or hospital volunteers. Gatekeepers are the people that see seniors daily (such as postal or newspaper delivery persons) often play a vital role in making sure that a senior living alone is safe. They begin to notice a pattern of activity that the senior usually keeps and will often report any difference and even personally check on them. Video monitoring is available to keep a watchful eye on someone living alone. These systems are usually monitored by a central system that is set up to contact emergency officials if needed. Some new systems allow you to view their activity on your personal computer. Of course the persons permission is required to set up a monitoring system. Motion devices can also detect when a senior has fallen or even not gotten out of bed. Technology of these systems increase more everyday helping make it possible for more seniors to live longer independently.
