Nutrition
Good balanced nutrition is vital to remaining healthy as you age. Most seniors loose the energy or motivation to cook, especially for one and resort to eating frozen dinners filled with sodium or only eating a sandwich. It is important for seniors to eat a well balanced diet to maintain their strength. See nutritional guidelines are seniors at http://www.mypyramid.gov. The Alzheimer's Association has also found that diets rich in fruits (especially berries), vegetables, fish, whole grains and low in fat help precent the disease.
It is also important to remind seniors to drink plenty of fluids. This helps them avoid dehydration and other health problems. Giving them a large water bottle with a straw to drink daily is helpful since going to get 8 glasses of water can be tiresome.
Food Stamps and Food Pantry's are also available to assist seniors with limited financial resources. Contact your local Senior Center for the closest Food Pantry in your area or a local church. Angel Food Ministries offers a box of produce and meats as well as prepackaged meals at a very low rate.
